Carpet facts worth knowing

Did you know that different carpet fibers are specific to certain needs? Wool, for instance, is an exceptionally elegant natural fiber that is on the highest end of the price spectrum. It takes color like no other fiber, but should never come into contact with water. It has a tendency to mold, and holds up to ten times its own weight in water.

Olefin, on the other hand, is so resistant to water and stains that many people use it in the basement and foyers, because it looks great and serves the purpose they need it to serve. Nylon is incredibly popular, as well as being strong, soft and perfect for high traffic areas of your home. Polyester has many of the same attributes as nylon, though it is a little easier on the budget.

In addition to fibers, you’ll want to consider if you want or need extra stain protection, or other extras that can be added either during manufacturing, or after installation. If you have small children or pets and expect that you’ll be experiencing a lot of spills and stains, we suggest a carpet that has stain resistance built right in to the fiber. In the same way, you can also purchase carpet that has extra protection against pet stains and odor.
